I have gathered the photographs at last. These few were only a fraction that many that would be necessary to aid me in telling one nice story. But the selected few are all that I could afford to paste. They should do the job of piecing together a picture that makes some sense. Helping me in future, to jot my failing memories in a meaningfully way.
Looking at the selection once more. Second apprehension. Oh Gosh! Looks like I am writing a travel brochure for the cruise company.
But think again. Not really. My own objectives count. This blog site was started for me to archive my experiences. Scenes that are memorable to me. Furthermore, at present, I am getting a constant flow of cursory requests. Enquiring on the outcome of my trips. So I convinced myself that the page was meant, more to jot my memories whenever I need a refresher. Did I said that earlier? So, I will tell the story. The way I tell it. like Jan just wrote today "Khongish".
Then half way through writing up this text, I discovered that I had used up 149 pictures, allocated space for February. Not bad. I like the feelings that I had worked hard.
Back to writing. Comparing Virgo with the two earlier cruise ships that I had been, Virgo is definately a world class cruiser.
First impression. The program and the style of food served were of international standings. The sister ships caters more for the oriental crowd.
Second impression - Me, like a frog out of the well. Couldn't imagine that ammenities on board could be of such dimensions. All installed and be incorporated within such a small confine, as in one ship. Truly. it was like a gigantic floating hotel. The size of the outlets, as measured by its seating capacity, can be termed as fair size to large. Imagine restaurants and theater that could hold over 900 guests in one seatings.
Then there were outlets for drinks and food. Bars, other niche restaurants and even one 24 hours stall. There were 5 bands dishing out latin music. Sorry! no canton pops. The shows were of very high standings. On another topic, staff motivation in the way of career enhancement was evident. Quite a few shows were produced by the crews. They filled the program appropriately.
As usual, to complete the whole program on board, there was a barbecue night. One formal Captain's diner. On the later's night, that was the time, where passengers got to see the whole senior management. Shared a classy meal together. Not that the other meals were below par.
We tried our best to get involved in their program. But again, we do have that much of energy and honestly not that out-going too. Not unless, we have a gang of 12 or 15 members. Then we could selfishly transform their program as our own shows. We enjoyed our cruise in the Gemini for that reason.
The casino too was much larger. Obvious patronage by the passengars as compared to Gemini. I was surprised to see that there was a fair following from the local Singaporean. The number of regulars on board and playing in the Casino.
I would not mind going on board again. Though secretly, I still like the warmth of the closer society. The Canton pop on board the Gemini. Sadly, we were told that our idol Ah Loong had at last, ended his contract with the company for performance on board Gemini.
I am happy that this episode of going on cruise had an happy ending. Right now with little yearning. I would not know about my sentiments 12 months down the road.
